might not sound spectacular, this
event truly is a sight to see. Picture trac-
tors, trucks and combines covered grill
to tailpipe in bright, twinkling lights.
Wave to a red-cheeked Santa being
pulled not by 12 reindeer but by one
very large John Deere. e parade, a
celebration of the agricultural heritage
of Washington’s lush Yakima Valley,
takes place annually the first Saturday of
December in Sunnyside. Nearby, make
your own parade on a pair of cross-
country skis down the Lower Yakima
Valley Pathway as you head 14 miles
to the town of Prosser in the heart of
Washington wine country.

MINUTEMAN BIKEWAY
During the Yulefest run in Cambridge,
Mass.

December 1, 2013, you’re likely to sprint
alongside giant gingerbread men, angels, a
huffing Santa or two, and elves in bright
green spandex. At the wacky 5K cos-
tumed race, just about anything goes. In
past years, more than 800 jolly joggers
have participated. Watch them dance at
the epic block party in Harvard Square
afterwards. Need to get your legs race-
ready? Train on the nearby Minuteman
Bikeway. e 11-mile rail-trail winds
through suburban Boston and is an
RTC Hall-of-Famer.
