NEW ORLEANS LEVEE TOP TRAIL
Got a taste for oysters? en plan to be in New
Orleans on March 8, 2014, when a huge oyster

more than 5,000 fried oysters will be the cen-
terpiece of the Louisiana Oyster Jubilee (
oyster
)
.
Typically it takes the public about
15
minutes to devour the ocean-size sandwich.
Oysters are a noted aphrodisiac; afterwards,
why not fall in love with the New Orleans Levee

about 6 miles southwest of the French Quarter’s
Bourbon Street, where the festivities take place,
and winds 21 miles along the Mississippi River.

IOWA GREAT LAKES TRAIL
On January 24–26, 2014, a wild tournament comes
to a quiet town in the Iowa Great Lak
e
University of Okoboji Winter Games
(
games.com
).
With fewer than 1,000 frost-nipped
residents, the town of Okoboji swells with as many
as 30,000 people when it hosts this annual winter
sports festival. ough the university is fictitious,
games participants are in for real, hardcore winter
sports: ice bowling, a polar plunge, broomball
(
think ice hockey without ice skates), and a
Freeze-Your-Fanny bike ride. While enjoying the
competition, make time for some noncompetitive
fun on the Iowa Great Lakes Trail, a rail-trail that threads 18 miles alongside
lakes, through scenic natural areas, and into several welcoming communities.
Length & surface:
18.2
miles; asphalt
End points:
125
th St. and 253rd Ave. (Orleans)
to 225th St. and Q Ave. (Milford)
