Ever said “cheers” among cheetahs, or clinked
glasses to the chimps? How about taking in
some tunes around tigers? If not, here’s your
chance at the third annual Zoo Brew, a fun-
draiser for the Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas.
On Thursday evening, September 20, from
6 to 9 p.m., you’ll get to sample dozens
of beers and enjoy live music from the
Shannon Boshears Band—and all in the
company of critters of every kind! Tickets
are $20 and cover all drinks (but not a
meal). Located in War Memorial Park,
the zoo is just off Interstate 630 and,
more important, only a short walk or
ride from the Arkansas River Trail. The
rail-trail winds in segments along both
sides of the river—in Little Rock and North Little Rock—
and is a great way to tour the area’s parks and waterfront
attractions. For more details, check
www.littlerockzoo.com
or
call 501.666.2406.

Forget forks or skewers—in the village of Turtle Lake, Wis.,
fondue calls for a much bigger utensil. At the second annual
Pitchfork Fondue on Saturday, October 6, you can partake
in a feast fit for a giant, with tender cuts of steak dipped and
cooked in cauldrons of hot oil. Part of the larger Wisconsin
Colorfest (
www.wisconsincolorfest.com
), sponsored by the
Turtle Lake Lions Club, this autumn celebration features other
attractions—including model railroad and toy tractor shows as
well as some of the finest fall foliage you’ll find in the Midwest.
And how best to work up a pitchfork-size appetite? Stride out
a few miles on the Cattail State Trail, which cuts right through
town and offers nearly 18 miles of calorie-burning fun. For
ticket information and other event details, call 715.986.2241 or
