If you’re feeling feisty for fall, there’s no better way to leg out the
last days of summer than at the 33rd annual Polkamotion by
the Ocean in Rehoboth Beach, Del. From Thursday to Sunday,
September 13 to 16, you can kick your heels and dance to a
line-up featuring 10 Polka Hall of Famers! Held at the Rehoboth
Beach Convention Center, all the action is within easy walk-
ing distance of the beach and boardwalk, and also the nearby
Junction and Breakwater Trail through Cape Henlopen State
Park—a scenic and serene supplement to the boisterous festivities
of Polkamotion, which is coming off a record turnout in 2011.
Adult tickets range from $11 to $17 for single-day admission,
and other multi-day packages are available. Visit

Have a hankering for sloppy does? Maybe squirrel gravy
over biscuits, or teriyaki-marinated bear sausage? Then
pack an adventurous palate—and possibly an iron
constitution—and head to Marlinton, W.Va., for the
West Virginia Roadkill Cook-off and Autumn Harvest
Festival on Saturday, September 29. Organized by the
Pocahontas County Chamber of Commerce, the festi-
val features a regional craft show, live bluegrass music,
tastings from local wineries, the crowning of Miss
Roadkill, wagon rides, a dog show and much more.
The cooking starts around 9 a.m., judging begins at
2 p.m., and you can vote for your favorite dishes.
Also, Marlinton is perfectly situated at the halfway
point of the Greenbrier River Trail (inducted into
the Rail-Trail Hall of Fame in June), so you’ll have
plenty of time to try out this 78-mile treasure dur-
ing your visit. To learn more about the cook-off,
