Musical Bike Ride Revival
From the moment that I saw the
knew
covery it
desperately needs. So many negative
articles have been written on Detroit,
justly and unjustly. This article was a
breath of fresh air and well deserved; it
is about time the country hears about
something good going on [in the city]. I
have been telling friends for several years
just how nice it is to ride in Detroit.
The Dequindre Cut, a rail-trail project,
the Detroit River Waterfront path and
miles of bicycle lanes have transformed
Detroit. I love riding about this great
city and seeing its current and past
glory…now I regularly see groups of
happy people touring where, a few years
ago, no one would admit ever having
been.
I had a unique experience over Labor
Day…Detroit is known for automo-
biles, but music is another integral part
of its culture. I went for a ride through
Detroit and Hamtramck. On my ride,
I was able to experience listening to
the annual Jazz Fest along the water-
front and an Electronic Music event in
Midtown. Then, over in Hamtramck, I
caught some rock n’ roll and bluegrass
music at their annual Labor Day Fest.
Finally, on my way home, I stopped by
a weekly blues event that is held in an
open lot in a local neighborhood. What
a great way to enjoy the “D”…all on a
bicycle too!
Detroit has many pains to resolve
before it can take its place again as a
great American city. Who would have
thought that the bicycle would help to
be one of its leaders?

Discovering New
from Old
We recently discovered an article,
er
Trail,” that we had ripped out of your
engrossing magazine…and stuffed in a
book for later. This past weekend, we
took a weekend trip to that area and
thoroughly enjoyed the trail. What an
amazing trail! Three, really: Walkway
Over the Hudson, the Hudson Valley
Rail Trail and the Dutchess Rail Trail!
Walkway Over the Hudson has cre-
ated a fantastic map to help you navigate
the trails and additional rides in this
rich area. A lovely ride! A special treat
was the sound installation on the Mid-
Hudson Bridge. Thank you for nudging
us that way!

We are pleased to hear that our stories
continue to provide great trip ideas for our
members! For other awesome destinations,
be sure to check out our magazine archive
at railstotrails.org/magazine.
Don’t Diss the Donkeys
We drive miniature donkeys and have
been to a couple of rail-trail areas. Could
you please write some equine trail arti-
cles in your magazine periodically? They
always have so much biking in them,
which I know people love, but there is
a ton of equine riding/driving interest
everywhere as well. Thanks!

We aim to cover a wide variety of trail
use in our magazine. For a great snip-
pet on donkeys, check out “Little Brays
issue! In the future, we promise to continue
to explore the great variety of trail uses
around the country.

I
would LOVE to
have the Memphis
area trails post:
No Clothesline
on the BeltLine
and
No Turd Left

.
Can I get
some PDF files or
some instructions
to help our own
organizations post
things like this?

Happy Trails Vacationer
I have been a member for many years.
I have found that rail-trails have been
a major part of my summer vacations
this year—in early summer on the
Ashuwillticook Rail Trail in western
Massachusetts, and this week on the
Cape Cod Rail Trail.
And when not on a major vacation,
a ride on the Silver Comet Trail in my
hometown of Atlanta is like a three or
four hour vacation. Thanks for all the
good work you do.
