season’s snow. We traipse along together
for a way, as I learn about David and
Becca Grozinsky’s love for this area, little
Bruno dozing all the while. When they
head back home to Johnson, I press on
and take a slight detour up Depot Street
into the tiny village of Hyde Park.
The grand yellow Georgian in town is
the Governor’s House Inn. It’s across from
the Playhouse, home to a busy summer
stock theater. I’ve heard too much about
the Sweet Crunch Bakeshop to go without
trying one of their renowned Vermont
maple cookies. It’s a good thing I’ve been
burning calories on the trail.
With the shadows growing ever longer,
I head out for the last leg of this central
section of trail, which passes through
Morristown. The trail cuts right through
the town center, which boasts a couple
of nice bed and breakfasts, several restau-
rants, a sporting goods store, and a classic
Art Deco movie theater. My journey ends
at the Thistledown Inn, a warm Victorian-
era B&B where innkeeper Sheila Tymon
makes me feel right at home after an
invigorating day on the LVRT.
Central Vermont. She finds time to hike and
snowshoe with her seven Labrador retrievers
and to trail ride with her horses.
